This episode was stupid, boring and on the whole disappoint. I couldn’t be assed to TS the 3 signs in the episode because it was such a terrible episode. Final releases for 9 and 10 with TS maybe never because my care levels are v. low.
Notes:
Interrogation room Katsu-don - the most outplayed trope in every cop show in Japan.

Currently, we don’t have any concrete plans for future projects. It just depends on if something catches our interest and we have the time.
We were joking about doing the Date Masamune Taiga drama at one point, but I wouldn’t count on that, lol.
Yo, we’re happy that you like our translations and all, but Dramacrazy.net? Tsk tsk

Technically this is a pre-release as I haven’t had time to TS yet. BUT basically all the signs are names, save the title “Message from Beyond the Grave on Christmas Eve.”
Next week is the last episode, it’s 30 minutes longer than usual. Oh joy.
There would be a funny picture here, but my laziness knows no bounds.

Notes:
Chinese traditional medicine: Technically, Kageyama is saying that he is a nationally certified pharmacist in China because apparently pharmaceuticals in China include traditional Chinese medicine as well.
For those of you in Intermediate Japanese who were like HEY KAMO DOESN’T MEAN SITTING DUCK! Here are some notes about that. Kamo is a (bad) pun as it could mean duck or sucker. I wanted to make a (bad) joke where she gets called a ‘sucker’ and thinks he’s talking about lollipops but Kageyama’s pigeon foiled this line of (mildly unfunny) humor. FOILED. They want from ‘duck’ to ‘pigeon’ because kamo and hato sound kinda similar if you don’t have very good listening comprehension (i.e. Reiko).
Company anthem: yes, in Japan most big companies have an anthem, much like colleges. Sometimes, you are forced to sing them every day, it’s not a very pleasurable experience. Kazamatsuri makes a derp joke by punning company anthem (shaka) and brisk (shaka shaka). He basically did the equivalent of saying “No wonder it’s so hard!” when someone tells you the piece you’re listening to is rock music.
We watched many episodes of Downton Abbey to increase the smooth sophistication of Kageyama’s manner of speaking.
So, dumbest motive for (attempted) murder or dumbest motive for (attempted) murder?

yagou - stage name. For all you nerds, this is more than just Norma Jean changing her name to Marilyn Monroe.
Yuuhi ni hoero: parody of taiyou ni hoeru Bark at the Sun old 70s cop movie It’s like nerding out over the original set of Starsky and Hutch. I guess Matsugoro is Owen Wilson?
June birthstones: for all you girls who are confused because you thought the june birthstone is pearl, relax, it is pearl. There are apparently two “alternative” birth stones for June and one of them is Alexandrite.
I don’t know jack about birthstones but I don’t think Kageyama’s explanation of what Alexandrite stands for is common knowledge (if that at all) outside of Japan.
“One of the characters in this episode is named Beniko. The name literally translates to “red rose.”
Beniko. The name literally translates to “red rose.”
Beniko. …literally translates to “red rose.”
Beniko. “red rose.”

Translation notes (LOL): Meiji Period = September 1868 through July 1912. In retrospect, I think I could have TLed it as “Turn of the Century” but I was too hopped up on “Four Day Weekend.”
Hostess clubs: Technically a bar, but the main attraction is paying ladies wearing tacky reject prom dresses to flirt with you. The bar mistress or “mama-san” is usually the HBIC. Most businesses swear it’s not prostitution but it generally gets categorized in ~sex services~ in Japan.
